My old address still shows up after we moved

After a move or a closed branch, the old address often stays online for years: on an old listing, in a directory, on a map, or on your own website's footer. Customers drive to the wrong door, or decide you've closed.

Where old addresses hide

a second Google listing for the old place; Yelp, Apple Maps and Bing; Facebook "about" pages; your website footer, contact page and receipts; directories that copied your old details.

What to do

  1. Search your business name plus your old street on your phone and on a computer. Write down every place it shows up.
  2. Fix your own places first: Google profile, website, Facebook.
  3. On listings you don't control, use "Suggest an edit" or report the place as moved or closed.
  4. Check again in two weeks. Some places update slowly.

Questions owners ask

Should I delete the old Google listing?

If it has your reviews, ask Google to mark it as moved, not deleted. See "How to change your business address on Google".

We closed one of two locations. What now?

Mark that location as permanently closed on Google, and remove it from your website.

Can you find every place it shows up?

Yes. That's part of the free check.
