Google asked for a verification video. What do I film?

Many new businesses are asked to verify with a short video instead of a postcard. Google's goal is to see that the business is real and at the place (or serves the area) you claimed.

What to show, in one continuous take

  • Where you are: the street sign or the outside of your building, or your vehicle with the business name if you go to customers.
  • That it's your business: your sign, your tools, equipment or workspace.
  • That you're in charge: open a document or account with the business name, like a business bank statement or a utility bill, or unlock your work area.

Avoid

cutting the video, filming only a laptop screen, or showing a home address you told Google to hide without showing anything business-related.

If it fails

Google tells you in the account. Read the reason, fix what it says, and try again. Don't create a new profile.

Questions owners ask

I work from home. What do I show?

Your vehicle or tools with the business name, and a business document. Choose 'service area' so your home address stays hidden.

How long does review take?

Google decides. It can be a few days or longer.

Can someone else film it for me?

Anyone can hold the phone, but it must show your real business, live.
