Does my new business need a website right away?
Last updated: Oct 2026
Honest answer
not always. A complete Google Business Profile answers most first questions: where you are, when you're open, how to call.
You need a website when
- customers ask about prices or services in detail;
- you take bookings or quotes;
- you need to show your work, your team or your credentials;
- you want to show up for more searches than your name.
If you build one, the first screen on a phone must show: what you do, where, your hours, and a phone number customers can tap.
What it costs
from free with a basic builder, to help from someone like us (Foundation + New Website, $899, one time), plus the domain and hosting you pay those companies directly.
Questions owners ask
Is a Facebook page enough?
It helps, but customers searching Google may not see it. Do Google first.
Wix or Squarespace?
Either works for a simple site. What matters is what's on the first screen and that it matches your Google listing.
Do I own it?
You should. Make sure the domain and the accounts are in your name.
