Fine on Google, wrong in ChatGPT
· 2 min read · Remus Baltatu
You fixed your hours on Google.
You fixed your hours on Google. They're right. Then a customer asks ChatGPT "is [your business] open Sunday?" and gets last year's hours. Siri on the same customer's iPhone gives a third answer.
That's because each one reads a different place:
| Where the customer asks | What it mostly reads |
|---|---|
| Google (search and Maps) | Your Google Business Profile |
| ChatGPT | Yelp, found through a Bing search |
| Siri and Apple Maps | Apple Business Connect |
In a 2026 study of about 2 million AI answers for 1,355 businesses, ChatGPT cited Yelp in about 80% of its answers, and the Google profile wasn't among its top sources (BrightLocal). Yelp has had a data deal with OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, since February 2026.
Many owners ignore Yelp because they don't like it. That habit now costs them in ChatGPT.
The 5-minute check:
- Ask ChatGPT: What are [your business]'s hours and phone number?
- Search your business on Yelp and on Apple Maps.
- Compare all three with your Google profile and your website.
The fix is free. Claim your Yelp page (biz.yelp.com) and your Apple page (businessconnect.apple.com), and copy the same name, phone, hours and website from Google. You don't need to buy ads on either.
If you'd like, I'll run those questions for your business and send you what each one says, side by side. Free, just reply with your business name.
